Computerworld Honors Program Recognizes The University of Georgia College of Pharmacy

Day in and day out, Sarah Jones and Russ Palmer work tirelessly to offer the best possible distance learning education environment for students and faculty.  I am pleased to inform you that their hard work has received national recognition. 

Each year, the Computerworld Honors Program brings together the Chairmen and CEOs of the world’s foremost information technology companies to recognize the most outstanding user achievements in technology.  Each Chairman’s Committee member or company submits nominations for the people or organizations they feel demonstrated extraordinary use of information technology that benefited society during the past year.  The College of Pharmacy was nominated to the Computerworld Honors Program by Tandberg for the work of our Digital Media Working Group in the integration of videoconferencing, instructional recording, and streaming media technologies.  This group is comprised of Sarah Jones, Russ Palmer, Brad Brown, and Brinkley Warren.  Their case study, “The Right Prescription for Distance Education,” has been chosen as a Laureate for the 2010 Computerworld Honors Program.

Sarah, Russ, Brad, and Brinkley will receive their Laureate medals at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on June 7.  A small number of Laureates will receive “Finalist” distinction at this ceremony, so their case study may receive additional accolades.

Please join me in congratulating these four staff members for their outstanding accomplishments and for the excellent service they provide to the College of Pharmacy on a daily basis.

Slow Dance

Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round?

Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight? Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down. Don't dance so fast.

Time is short. The music won't last.

Do you run through each day on the fly?

When you ask: How are you? Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head?

You'd better slow down. Don't dance so fast.

Ever told your child, we'll do it tomorrow?

And in your haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die cause you never had time to call and say "Hi"?

When you run so fast to get somewhere you miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift thrown away.
