On July 15th 2009, 10 Russian Orphan Children came to Hilton Head on a Russian Exchange Program. Ten families had volunteered to host these children, some of them sure they were going to adopt, some definitely not going to adopt but wanted to host and some that were just going to wait and see. When I filled out the application, I had no idea which child I was going to get even though they had a place for you to pick one. I decided to let God send to me the child that belonged to me. He certainly did! When Olga arrived, she spoke no English, however, the connection between us was immediate. She is a beautiful, independent child, so smart, and by the third day she had gone through a whole box of flash cards and was able to identify the pictures in English. The three weeks she was here, we swam, rode bicycles, shopped, laughed and fell in love. When she left, I made a promise to her, I would be going to Russia and bringing her home. She is expecting and counting on me. I won't let her down. The international adoption process is complex and expensive. I can handle the complexities but the expense, well, I need help. The cost ranges from about 18,000 to 20,000 dollars. When you think about it though, most people pay more for their car. This is a little girl, who if she does not get adopted will be tossed out of the orphanage at 15 and expected to fend for herself. The statistics are eye opening. 90% of girls become prostitutes, 25% commit suicide in the first 2 years of being on the street and 65% of them are dead by the age of 30 years old. I hope when you see the beautiful, smiling peaceful face of Olga that God will put it on your heart and help me to bring her home. God Bless You!
