| The Heart Part 2 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5, 6 I tell people that my heart is my biggest battle field, and daily I must fight the good fight of faith to keep my heart focused on God’s ways and chose His values. I am highly motivated to fight the good fight of faith with myself because I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God’s will, done God’s way, always leads me in the path of God’s destiny for my life. 2 Chronicles 16:9 says, For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. When my heavenly Father is tugging at my heart and wants me to release something to Him, it’s only to give me something better, always for my highest good. This is why Paul could write to us in Colossians 3:2, Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. If our hearts are to be His so He can work in and through us, we need to learn to think the way God thinks. This is why Scripture is so important. Scripture teaches us to think the way God thinks, not the way our culture thinks. There are three agendas at work in our struggle with making our heart His. There is our agenda or plan, our cultural agenda, and God’s agenda. Sometimes, they may all fall in line together, but rarely. Somewhere along the line, the first stage in learning to trust God and not lean on my own understanding is to make His agenda, no matter what, the top priority of my heart and the basis of the choices I make in all phases of life.
